We’ve just finished the branding of a new Leeds based technology company – Fuxion (that would be ‘x’ as in ‘xylophone’) set up by an old friend, Kevin Mellor, who was coding for BBC Micros back in the day when we were knee-high to grasshoppers.
Fuxion specialise in solving complicated technology problems, such as persuading different systems to talk to each other, and if necessary writing custom software and application to achieve this. And of course they also do more everyday consultancy and training, amongst other services.
Basically, if you’ve got a technology problem (and I don’t mean a ‘turn it off, turn it on again’ kind of problem) then they’d be the folk to talk to, they’re based in Leeds but looking to expand rapidly across the UK so I’m pretty sure they’d be more than happy to help.

Here’s a sneaky peek (a proper write up / images when we get a chance) at the re-design of Lloyd’s List newspaper that went live on Monday.
Lloyd’s List is a daily newspaper (Berliner format) published by Informa for the maritime industry. Our role over 8 months or so was to completely re-design it from the ground up, including; masthead, typography, grid, layout & hierarchy. Needless to say it’s been a long project but the results look really good and we’re very proud (and pleased) of how the internal team at Lloyd’s List have applied and rolled-out the designs and templates we designed for them.

Pibbix, a new client of ours (their brand spanking new err… branding above), has just gone live with it’s Beta (and by Beta I really do mean Beta, not “actually, this is the final thing, we just want to have a get out of jail free card, just in case it doesn’t work as well as we think it does”) of it’s voicemail service.
So what do they do, well:
- Voicemail to text
- SMS and email notifications (including MP3 of the voicemail)
(along with some other good stuff, and even more just around the corner, all, as you would imagine, in the cloud).
If you’re thinking that it all sounds a little familiar, you may be thinking of someone like SpinVox (and others) – except Pibbix is better (IMHO) and quite open that it’s both computers and humans doing the transcription. We like it so much, we’re using it ourselves.
Pibbix was set up by Dan Lane (amongst others) which means that it A) works and B) is likely to become a huge success pretty quick-sticks (the first app that opens on his MacBook Pro is Terminal).
There’s more of a write-up about them over here with even the possibility of you being able to get a Beta invite.

We’ve just sent off the artwork files for the first ‘press test’ (on the Guardian’s presses) of the new design of the Lloyd’s List newspaper – we’re looking to check colour, legibility, sizing, etc… before moving to the next stage of developing the paper. It’ll be exciting later this week to see a physical rough draft (in effect a wet proof) of the paper after months of work on the paper.

The London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Commercial Education Trust (or LCCI CET for short) website has gone live today.
Working with Robin Booth over at LCCI CET we’ve designed and built the Trust’s first site to help them promote their grant giving. The website features a full CMS allowing them to edit the site and add new entries at ease which should allow their site to word hard (and remain up-to-date) for them over the next few years.
